Caramel Bread Pudding is delicious and such an easy pudding that tastes so yummy. It is one of the best desserts you can make with bread and that too without an oven. It is a steamed version of pudding that any dessert lover can make their own. You will never feel that the dessert is made from normal bread. And moreover, the custard flavor can give you an extra taste and creaminess to your dessert.

We also give a layer of caramel which gives a nice golden and glossy top for the pudding.
For this recipe, I added a small amount of water so the caramel will not be too sweet. But you have to option to omit and prepare how you want it.
The smooth and delicate texture with the frail nature attracts everyone, especially the kids. Moreover the best part of this recipe, it does not require eggs and can be made with steam so no oven required. The dessert is perfect for a small get together, party or potluck.
I have used normal white sugar here if you wish you can replace it with brown sugar for a healthy choice, but you may not get the same texture and taste. And always try to use good quality milk and custard powder for the best result. And while steaming remember to cover it with aluminum foil or a lid to avoid water getting segregated over the pudding.
Ingredients:
- sugar - 1cup
- bread - 5
- milk - 1.5cup
- custard powder - 4tsp
- In a pan take 1/2 cup sugar and heat on low to medium flame. Stir in between until sugar melts completely. Maintain, low to medium flame until the sugar turns golden brown. When it gets golden brown it means sugar is caramelized and if you wish you can add a dash of water but make sure you stand in a distance and add water because there is a chance of caramel sugar getting splashed on you. Make sure you don't burn the sugar so maintain medium to low flame always. And make sure to use a hard bottom pan.
- Transfer to a loaf pan or heated proof container. Swirl slightly to coat the wall of the pan. keep aside.
- Trim edges of bread slices. Cut into small pieces. Transfer to a blender and pulse to make crumbs.
- In a pan add 1.5cups of milk and allow to boil.
- Take 4tsp of custard powder and mix it with some water and make a lump-free mixture.
- When the milk starts boiling add the custard mix and gently mix.
- Once you add custard mix never stop stirring since there is a chance of getting stick to the bottom.
- Add bread crumbs and again mix. Continue to cook until the mixture turns super creamy and thick.
- The mix becomes thicker and then stop.
- Transfer the mixture to the loaf pan.
- Place loaf pan in a steamer and steam for about 30 mins. Close the loaf pan using a foil while steaming.
- After 30mins remove from the steamer. Let it cool and refrigerate for at least 2-3hrs.
- Demould the pudding to a plate by just inverting and tapping the bottom of loaf pan and then lifting carefully.
- Smooth and delicate pudding ready to serve. Slice and enjoy!!
